Where have all the True Atlantian Heroes Gone?(Closed)

Rey simply nodded when the boy said he didn't blink, some kids these days didn't ever seem to blink at all. It probably had to to with all the new video games and what not, they looked pretty cool but they had to be a killer on the eyes; specially if gamers are the same now as they were back then. And people thought his generation was going to have bad eyesight when they grew up. Now he was just a 'new adult' but his eyesight wasn't really that bad, hell he was pretty sure besides Stalker Arrow he had the best eyesight in the world. The thought immediately made him look over at the cameras on the light posts 'to catch speeders' and wondered what The Phantoms or G.U.N was doing right now.

Unsure of what exactly to say now he held his hand out to the kid, "Rey Miller... Nice to meet you kid, that is of course if you aren't gona run home and tell everyone that I have super powers." The last part was more of a whisper than anything, as he didn't want any wandering ears, he was pretty sure the kid wouldn't go saying anything but it was always good to make sure. Not like he could honestly do anything about it though as he himself had been dumb enough to allow someone to catch sight of him.

John was now glancing around a bit trying to avoid looking at the super fast man since he was starting to feel that this conversation had become a bit too awkward for what it was.He definitely had no intent of something like this happening.Still, it could be worse.The man could be trying to kill him or something.That would really be something he would not want to deal with.

After several seconds of looking around at everything in the area he finally turned his attention back to the man as he started to speak again.His hand was now held out for a handshake as he introduced himself as one Rey Miller.John accepted his handshake after a brief seconds pause and introduced himself in turn."John Capore and no I'll keep quiet.Don't worry about a thing." he told him completely honestly.He knew all too well how important a secret identity was.All too well indeed.

Rey nodded his head when John said he’d keep quiet, he wasn’t sure if he could trust the kid to keep his word but something told him he would be able to and he hoped that hunch wasn’t wrong. If he was wrong there would be consequences he certainly didn’t want to get into, there were only two people that were not Phantoms who knew his identity and one of them was dead… and the other? Well he honestly didn’t know where the other one was and hadn’t heard from her in quite some time, so he assumed it didn’t matter anymore as his secret was apparently safe. How much trouble could one more person knowing his secret identity be, especially when this one person didn’t know who his super hero persona was in the first place.

John now knew this man's name and he had admitted to having superpowers and having once been a superhero before retiring for reasons unbeknownst to him.Tis was all information that the man known as Rey was entrusting John to keep secret.A secret he would keep indeed.John was just the type of person that people could generally trust with personal information.

"Uh." he uttered out without meaning to as some questions started to form in his mind.The thought of him having super speed and the previous mention of a quiver had made him think of somebody he had met on a previous occasion.Focusing his mind to remember clearly what it was that he was trying to remember he flashed back to that massive attack on New York city where he fought alongside somebody who used a quiver and moved at superhuman speeds.John wondered if this guy could possibly be the very same person.Trying not to actually ask him he wound up blurting out the question in such a weird and unsightful fashion."So if you were a superhero before does that mean you fought during that attack on New York a few months ago or were you stuck in court that day handling a traffic ticket case?" Immediately upon saying that he covered his mouth with his left hand in some shock of what he just asked and hung his head in shame."What the?Ugh, idiot." he was thinking now hoping Rey wouldn't take too much offense to that.

So if you were a superhero before does that mean you fought during that attack on New York a few months ago or were you stuck in court that day handling a traffic ticket case?’ Rey blinked at the sudden question but he figured it would be coming sooner or later, as the assault seemed to be on everyone’s mind. The huge attack orchestrated Project Perfection under the guidance of one man, Doctor Necrodium. All the heroes that day, and even some villains, tried their best to save what they could, all there that day gave it their all but it still wasn’t enough. Even after all the efforts they couldn’t save New York, it was blown to smithereens and there was all the fault of super humans. If it wasn’t for people with powers Project Perfection never would have been created, and all of this could have been avoided. “Yea, I was kid, I was in Queens when it happened… sometimes I wish I had a time machine, I could go back and make everything right.”

He shook his head, still leaning against his car wondering what exactly they could have done better. “Everyone says that if Super Heroes had tried harder or if they weren’t there in the first place everything would have been different. I don’t believe that I believe that we did the best we could we just weren’t good enough that time. We weren’t as organized as the enemy and that is what cost us, that’s what did us in. We believed we were better than everyone else because of our powers and couldn’t die, it wasn’t till after Doctor Necrodium dropped the ship on New York that everyone saw the truth. We are simply human.” It may not be the reply the kid was looking for exactly but it was something he had to say, something he had to get off his chest, who knew what anyone ever really expected or wanted these days anyway.

"Such a stupid thing to say.Just so damn stupid." kept going through his head over and over again relentlessly as if his own mind were trying to punish him for saying such a thing.It was just so unnecessarily rude.These thoughts continued to go through his head until he heard the man finally respond.His response was filled with sadness, anger and resentment.None of which John could blame him for having since he was there when it happened.It was only those who experienced it all firsthand that really understood what it was like that frightful day.

Rey mentioned having been in Queens when it happened.The exact area of the city that he himself had been in.John was pretty sure he had at one point or another ran into every single person that was defending that particular district.This newly discovered fact coupled with the facts of him possessing superhuman speed and having used a quiver made it beyond coincidental.John was now convinced that Rey was the individual he had met known as the Ranger whom he had personally fought alongside during that battle.

He couldn't pursue these thoughts any longer thought.Not even for another second.Rey had started speaking again and his words were taking up his entire frame of mind.It was something that was definitely important to him to say and as such it made John listen carefully.He talked deeply of that day and how he experienced it.After he was finished John could only pause to take a deep breath before saying"I'm sorry."

Rey sighed when the John said he was sorry, what did this kid have anything to be sorry about it wasn’t like he had anything to do with what happened in New York; and if he was saying sorry because he asked a question then he shouldn’t be. How could anyone ever learn if they didn’t ask questions? That was what he thought at least. “You have nothing to be sorry about John; it was a fair question, perhaps not the best way to ask it but still a fair question.” The assault was the only thing on anyone’s mind it seemed, if it wasn’t that then it was something else super powered human, or Meta Human, related. They were all over the news, like that little group out in New York who called themselves the Talons that seemed to be doing alright but that Reverse Dimension thing was a bit too much for anyone to handle, but who knew maybe they’d be the next Phantoms, Tough Guys, G.U.N. and the sorts.

"No, no.That's not it." he was saying as he shook his head back and forth unsteadily in an awkward fashion.Awkwardness, something he knew how to do very well.Rey had thought that John was sorry for having asked that poorly asked question that had come out rude.But that was not it.Not it at all.He was thinking the completely wrong thing and John was really trying to inform him as such.He was just having trouble letting the words come out."That's not it at all.It's just." He kept going on but just couldn't seem to say it.He did not know why he was having trouble telling him but it was starting to annoy him just so much.Finally he stopped trying to say anything for a few seconds to take a deep breath and say"I'm saying I'm sorry because of what you had to have gone through that day.It was horrible for everyone who was fighting.Some more than others."
